 Should I go abroad to pursue further studies in Logistics?

This is an oft-repeated question that I keep getting from many youngsters and some times from their parents too!  There are many universities and Institutes around the world offering such courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  Starting from neighborhood Singapore, Malaysia to Europe, US, Australia and Canada, Universities and Business schools in these places offer these courses.  The courses are quite expensive starting from Rs.30 lakhs at low end to high as Rs.60 to 70 lakhs at high end.

A student from our Exim Academy reached out to me and asked me my opinion whether to go in for higher studies in Logistics in Canada or not.  I patiently listened to him and asked him his family background.  He is a B Tech Engineer 2018 batch and currently working in Software Company.  With his waning interest in software, he wanted to switch career.  That is how, he chose to study diploma in logistics in our Academy.  Ours is an International diploma in Logistics and Transport offered by the Chartered Institute of logistics and Transport, UK. He also told that to finance his further studies in Canada he had to borrow money from bankers.

After listening to him patiently, I advised him against such venture for reasons given below:

01.    He has to earn money now.  Plenty of jobs are available for a candidate like him in India.  There is an increasing infusion of technology like AI, IoT and Analytics in Logistics space more particularly in shipping, last mile connectivity and hyper local delivery etc.  His strength is his present academic qualification in Logistics by way of International certification and his experience in Software Company.  He has to combine the two and would be industry ready candidate at entry level for technology solutions in Logistics

02.    May be the entry salary levels are less in Indian Logistics space but nevertheless the compensation levels are bound to go northwards with experience.

03.    Indian logistics space is booming.  He has to join the bandwagon right now and get experience.

04.  This is one sector that offers plenty of opportunities both for job as well as entrepreneurship.

05.    He can go certainly pick up further studies abroad but not now.  There are many CPD courses offered by many universities on short-term basis.

06.    There are also many online courses

07.    What is the charm studying abroad?  It is networking opportunity.  But such opportunities are available right now in India.  International networking is no longer the privilege of the few with ease of communication presently available.

08.    One has to patiently put in at least 3 to 5years in a Logistics company and work his way up.  First 5 years would be learning, there after he can venture for anything either for employment elsewhere or self employment;

09.  Finally, there is no point in taking a loan for further study.  None should start their career with loan on their head.
