The export potentiality profile of this district is quite amazing.  The district looks quite and simple despite the presence of major industries like Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), SanMar Chemicals and ONGC and number of sugar mills.  Beneath its calm surface, however, lie the vibrancy both in terms of religion, natural beauty, artistic dexterity and economy.  Perhaps, it is dwarfed by the presence of Pondicherry as its northern neighbor.  But instead of being overwhelmed by it like Villupuram, Cuddalore should strive to use international talent to its advantage.

Cashew in its value-added format is a good draw in European market.  40% of world’s consumption is in Europe with Germany contributing one third of it. Made to order imitation jewelry brings higher realisation. Ready to eat variety of sea food would be easy to sell. Coir product has good potential Gulf, USA and China. Visit to Tamilnadu is not complete without visiting Lord Nataraja temple.

Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFRTI) has played a significant role in enhancing the income of artisan by 175% and the cluster’s turnover by 18%.  There are 3 clusters for Coir, Cashew processing and Ceramics.  Clusters have both plus and minus.  But if plus is extrapolated, sky is the limit. 

Somehow, handloom is relegated in to the background.  Kurinjipadi was once considered as the best in the world for lungi quality with its fine 100 and 80 counts.  If new uses could be imparted, the Handloom lungi has definitely a great demand.  

With one University, 4 engineering colleges and 17 arts and science colleges, the district can have firm imprint internationally, if knowledge is transformed in to actionable skill.

 Salem - My District My Pride I dare to say that entrepreneurial ecosystem begins from this district and goes through Erode, Tiruppur and Coimbatore.   There is so much of activity that goes on here. Legalisation of Documents Legalisation of documents mean document issued with correct stamp in order to be recognised in another country.   In India, whenever, goods are shipped to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)member states, the importers require trade documents to be legalised before sending to them.   The member countries of GCC are Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain.   While Legalisation can be sought by any country, GCC countries are more specific and demand the same.   These are the countries that are not part of Hague Convention, 1907.     According to Wikipedia, “ The Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents, the Apostille Convention, or the Apostille Treaty, is an international treaty drafted by the Hague Conference on Private International Law”   Since these countries are not in the Hague Convention, the documents from India are to be attested or legalised by their respective consulates/embassies in India.
